Art Basel Miami Beach 2026: dates, tickets and where to stay

The short answer: Art Basel Miami Beach 2026 is open to the public from Friday, December 4 to Sunday, December 6, 2026, at the Miami Beach Convention Center (1901 Convention Center Drive). The first two days, Wednesday, December 2 and Thursday, December 3, are invitation only. Tickets are sold only through Art Basel's official online ticket shop. If you want to walk to the fair, stay in South Beach or Mid-Beach; if you care more about the satellite fairs and gallery parties, look at Wynwood.
The fair is the center of what everyone calls Miami Art Week: a week in early December when dozens of smaller fairs, museum openings, brand dinners and parties pile up around it. You can do it on a budget or go all in. Here's how to plan it.
What is Art Basel Miami Beach?
It's the American edition of Art Basel, the art fair founded in Basel, Switzerland, in 1970. Art Basel launched its Miami Beach edition in 2002, its first show outside Switzerland, and it has become the main meeting point for galleries from North America, Latin America and Europe. Art Basel also runs fairs in Basel, Hong Kong and Paris.
At the fair itself, galleries from around the world show modern and contemporary work, most of it for sale. The show is organized into sectors. Galleries is the main hall; Nova and Positions focus on newer work and younger artists; Survey looks at historical work; Kabinett gives galleries a separate space for a curated show; Meridians is for large-scale works; and there are also Edition (prints and multiples), Film and Public programs.
You don't need to be a collector to go. Most visitors on public days are there to look.
When is Art Basel Miami Beach 2026?
- Wednesday, December 2: VIP day (invitation only, from 4pm according to Art Basel's visitor information)
- Thursday, December 3: VIP day (invitation only)
- Friday, December 4 to Sunday, December 6: public days
Daily opening hours for 2026 are not posted yet. Check the official Miami Beach page before you book a timed visit.
How do I get tickets for Art Basel Miami Beach?
Buy them on artbasel.com, which links to Art Basel's official online ticket shop. The ticket page lists two kinds: general tickets and premium passes. Art Basel says availability is limited, so if you know your dates, buy early. We aren't listing prices here because they weren't posted on the official page when we checked (October 6, 2026).
Two things worth knowing:
- Avoid resellers. Art Basel runs a scam alert page on its site. If someone sells you a "VIP card" on social media, assume it's fake.
- Guided tours are separate. Art Basel partners with ArtNexus for guided tours during show hours. The tour does not include your fair ticket, so you need both. On public days, tour groups can't be bigger than 12 people.
Is Art Basel Miami Beach worth it if you're not buying art?
If you love seeing a huge amount of contemporary art in one place, yes. You'll see work that won't hang in a museum for years, and you can walk the whole fair in one long day.
If you love the scene more than the art, the fair is only part of it. Miami Art Week fills the city with satellite fairs (NADA Miami, Untitled Art and Design Miami are three of the best known), free public art, museum openings and parties. Many people go to the satellites first and treat the main fair as one afternoon. Each satellite fair sets its own dates and tickets, so check their official sites.
If you hate crowds, go on Friday morning, the first public day, before word of mouth fills the halls on the weekend.

Where to stay for Art Basel Miami Beach
Hotels fill up and rates rise during art week, so book as early as you can. Where you stay decides what kind of week you'll have.
South Beach (walk to the fair). The convention center sits in the north part of South Beach, a few blocks from the ocean. If you want to walk to the fair and to dinner, stay here.
- Hotel Greystone, 1920 Collins Avenue. A restored 1939 Art Deco hotel, a few minutes' walk from the convention center. Adults only, if you're traveling with friends and want a calmer pool.
- The Setai, 2001 Collins Avenue. Oceanfront and quiet, for when you want the art week to end at your door.
- 1 Hotel South Beach, 2341 Collins Avenue. A big beachfront hotel about half a mile from the convention center, for groups who want the beach as much as the fair.
Mid-Beach (beach first, short ride to the fair). Mid-Beach has some of the most talked-about hotels during art week, and a lot of brand events and dinners happen here.
- The Miami Beach EDITION, 2901 Collins Avenue. Oceanfront, with a nightclub and an ice rink on site, if you'd like the party to come to you.
- Faena Hotel Miami Beach, 3201 Collins Avenue. Part of the Faena District on Collins Avenue. For travelers who want the full art week experience in one place.
Wynwood and the Design District (mainland). If you love galleries, murals and late nights more than beach mornings, stay on the mainland. You'll need a car or rideshare to reach the main fair across the causeway.
- Arlo Wynwood, in Wynwood. A design-forward hotel that puts you in the middle of the gallery district.
Getting around
- Flying in: Miami International Airport (MIA) is the closest major airport. Fort Lauderdale (FLL) is farther north and sometimes cheaper.
- On Miami Beach: the City of Miami Beach runs a free South Beach Trolley, daily from 8am to 11pm, roughly every 20 minutes. Its loops stop at the Miami Beach Convention Center, Lincoln Road and the Bass Museum.
- Between the beach and the mainland: traffic on the causeways gets heavy during art week. If you're crossing to Wynwood or Downtown, leave more time than the map says.
- Walking: within South Beach, walking is often faster than a car during art week.
A simple plan for a long weekend
- Thursday: fly in, satellite fairs and gallery openings in Wynwood.
- Friday: Art Basel Miami Beach in the morning, beach in the afternoon.
- Saturday: a second satellite fair, then dinner in Mid-Beach.
- Sunday: a museum (the Bass is on the South Beach Trolley route), then fly home.
