October is when the art world comes to London. Here's how to plan the week.

What are Frieze London and Frieze Masters?

They're two separate art fairs that run at the same time, about a 15-minute walk apart in The Regent's Park. Frieze London was founded in 2003 by Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover and focuses on contemporary art, mostly work made after 2000. Frieze Masters shows art made before 2000 (or before 2010 if the artist was born before 1950), from ancient objects and old master paintings to 20th-century work.

Together, the 2026 editions bring almost 300 galleries from 48 countries and regions. New this year: The Code Universe, a curated section at Frieze London led by Carol Yinghua Lu, and Queering Modernism, a curatorial thread at Frieze Masters led by Anke Kempkes. Frieze says the two fairs welcome over 85,000 visitors combined each year, and most of them come to look, not to buy.

If you love new work and young galleries, start with Frieze London. If you love seeing art history up close, outside a museum, Frieze Masters is the one people tend to underrate.

The main options:

  • Thursday and Friday preview tickets: entry from 1pm on Thursday, October 15, or from 11am on Friday, October 16.
  • General admission: entry from 11am on Saturday, October 17, or Sunday, October 18.

  • Student tickets: all combined tickets, bought online; bring a valid student ID.
  • Children: under 2 go free. Ages 2 to 17 need a child ticket, which Frieze only sells for the weekend from 2pm.
  • Frieze Insider and Frieze membership: paid packages with earlier or multi-day access, guided tours and Frieze Week events.

Guided tours can be booked as an add-on to your ticket. Companions and carers of disabled visitors get a free ticket; contact Frieze's ticket support after booking.

How do I get to Frieze London and Frieze Masters?

By Tube. Driving is not a good idea, since parking in the park is limited.

  • Frieze London is in the south of The Regent's Park, with its entrance off Park Square West (postcode NW1 4LL). Regent's Park Tube station is less than five minutes' walk away; Baker Street and Great Portland Street are also close.
  • Frieze Masters is on Gloucester Green, in the north-east corner of the park near London Zoo (postcode NW1 4HA). It's about ten minutes' walk from Camden Town and Mornington Crescent.
  • Between the fairs: a free shuttle bus leaves roughly every 15 minutes from outside both entrances. Or walk it in about 15 minutes, which takes you past Frieze Sculpture.

What else is there to see during Frieze Week in London?

A lot, and some of it is free.

  • Frieze Sculpture (free, until November 1): outdoor works in The Regent's Park's English Gardens, at the south end of the Broad Walk, between the two fairs. Curated by Fatoş Üstek. If you can't get a ticket to the fairs, this is the one thing to do.
  • 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair (October 15 to 18): at Somerset House, focused on contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora. It sells its own tickets.
  • PAD London (October 13 to 18): a fair for 20th-century and contemporary design, on Berkeley Square in Mayfair.

Each fair has its own hours and tickets, so check their official sites before you go.

Where should I stay for Frieze London?

Hotels around the park fill up for Frieze Week, so book early. Where you stay depends on how you want to spend the week.

Marylebone (walk to Frieze London). The neighbourhood just south and west of the park, with Marylebone High Street for shops and cafés. Best for walking to the fair in the morning and back for dinner.

  • Dorset Square Hotel, 39-40 Dorset Square. A Regency townhouse on the square where Thomas Lord had his first cricket ground, about a 10-minute walk from Regent's Park. 38 rooms, if you'd like something small and quiet.
  • The Landmark London, 222 Marylebone Road. A big hotel with a glass-roofed Winter Garden atrium, a short walk from the park and Marylebone station.
  • The Zetter Marylebone, 28-30 Seymour Street. A Georgian townhouse hotel in the south of Marylebone, closer to Oxford Street than to the park.

Portland Place and Fitzrovia (galleries, restaurants, nightlife). Just east of Marylebone. A good base if Frieze is one day of your trip and the rest is London.

  • The Langham, London, 1c Portland Place. A grand hotel that opened in 1865, at the top of Regent Street, with Regent's Park a short walk north.
  • Charlotte Street Hotel, 15-17 Charlotte Street. A 52-room Firmdale hotel in Fitzrovia, with interiors by Kit Kemp inspired by the Bloomsbury Group. For travelers who care about design.

Where can I eat near Regent's Park during Frieze?

You can't bring food or open drinks into the fairs, and both have food and bars inside. For something better, look just outside.

Inside the park. The Royal Parks run eight cafés and kiosks in The Regent's Park. Near the fairs: the Espresso Bar on the Broad Walk at Chester Road (useful walking between the fairs), Regent's Bar and Kitchen on the Inner Circle by Queen Mary's Garden, and the Broad Walk Café near London Zoo, close to Frieze Masters.

Marylebone (near Frieze London).

  • Fischer's, 50 Marylebone High Street. A Viennese café serving schnitzel, strudel and coffee, open from breakfast to dinner. Good for a slow start before the fair.
  • Trishna, 15-17 Blandford Street. Indian coastal cooking with a serious wine list. Book ahead for dinner during Frieze Week.

Primrose Hill (near Frieze Masters).

  • Lemonia, 89 Regent's Park Road. A family-run Greek restaurant open since 1979. Pair it with a sunset walk up Primrose Hill after Masters closes.
